Ennis International
Fantastic Film Fest

October 25th to 27th 2024

FESTIVAL PROGRAMME

Ennis International Fantastic Film Festival (EIFF) launched in 2022 was the FIRST film festival in the ‘Fantastic’ genre in Ireland. ‘Fantastic’ genre covers, Horror, Fantasy and Sci-Fi films.

The Fantastic genre has seen a huge rise in popularity in the dynamic Film Festival scene in North America over the past decade, a trend now echoed across Europe. Ennis is proud to be the first location in Ireland to host a dedicated ‘Fantastic’ film festival.

About Ennis

Ennis (its name is derived from the Gaelic word ‘Inis’, meaning island) is a rare example of a Gaelic medieval town that grew organically without defensive walls, with a long history of openness and welcome.

At its heart is ‘The Old Friary’ built circa 1240, a seat of learning that attracted hundreds of scholars from Europe  in the 13th, 14th and 15th centuries.

A vibrant town, much of its sense of hustle and bustle is due to the narrowness of the main streets, threaded together by a labyrinth of atmospheric laneways and bow-ways, to form the medieval town centre.  It’s the perfect backdrop for a ‘Fantastic’ Film Festival!

Ennis is renowned for  the warmth of its welcome to visitors and its friendliness.

There are excellent places to stay, eat and socialise in the town centre and with a strong independent retailer and craft offering, it’s a great town for  shopping.

On our doorstep

Ennis, the capital town of County Clare is located at the very heart of this spectacularly scenic county, with an unparalleled variety of scenery to enjoy within a 45-minute drive of town.

Go-to sites include the world famous Cliffs of Moher, the Burren National Park famous for its ‘lunar’ landscape and network of caves (a source of inspiration for Brahm Stoker).

There’s an abundance of ‘Blue Flag’ beaches on the Wild Atlantic Way.

Other stunning locations include Loop Head Peninsula (a Star Wars location!).

To the East of Ennis lie the majestic waterways of the River Shannon and Lough Derg, surrounded by verdant landscape and a myriad of historic landmarks.
